What is Temu, and why do tariffs apply?

Temu is PDD Holdings’ cross-border international consumer marketplace — the fastest-growing China-to-world platform of the last two years. It targets the same buyers as AliExpress and Shein with even lower prices, driven by direct-from-factory fulfilment and US de-minimis pricing arbitrage.

The US de-minimis change in 2025 hit Temu hardest of all platforms. Most Temu orders to the US now arrive duty-paid (DDP) with the duty pre-collected at checkout, but the line-item isn’t always shown clearly. The calculator below reverse-engineers what the duty + VAT portion actually is.
